Qi Kai's Reflection Day 8
Day 8 : 18th November 2007
Describe an item you bought on this trip that you feel symbolizes your experience in China best.
I bought a keychain of the mascot of Beijing Olympic 2008. I felt that this keychain symbolize China best as next year China is hosting the Olympics.
Think about the people you have met, the knowledge that you have acquired and the places visited. Is there one particular experience that you feel has left a deep impression on you?
The most interesting person I met is my buddy’s cousin. He is a very humorous guy and brought me to his university for a tour. When I went into the hostel, people were playing DOTA, a famous game in Singapore but the game is in Chinese interface. It was very strange.

My buddy calls his cousins brother and sister and they come to live at his house for Saturday and Friday. So I have to live at a hotel.

Day 6 : 16th November 2007
Describe your day in the school. What do you find distinctly different about the classes you attended compared to your classes in Singapore?
Between each period, there will be a 5 minutes break. Every morning, they need to do dancing. Also, during PE lessons, they learnt martial arts but we just play basketball or soccer.
What did you learn today? Write down something you find most interesting and want to share with your friends when you get back.
I learnt that to climb Great Wall, we need to have a lot of stamina and determination.

Write down your feelings about the sight that you have soaked in today. How has your experience in China been different from what you are used to in Singapore?
Today we visited the museum of capital Beijing. I saw many artifacts and learnt about the culture and history of China like Qing Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and other Dynasties. I felt very happy.
Reflect on your home-stay experience, what have you learnt these past few days?
I learnt about the eating culture, the famous dishes in Beijing and the living style of Beijing people.
What are you most nervous about? How have you overcome it?
I am most nervous about the culture of eating. I am scared that their dishes will be totally different from those in Singapore but it turned out there is not much difference.

I went to Tian An Men today. Also, I went to Bei Hai Park. At Tian An Men, I saw the picture of Chairman Mao and learnt about the nine sons of the dragon on the dragon screen.

Now that you’re in Beijing, jot down any observations or reflections on your visit to the different place of interest in Beijing. How are these places similar or different to the places of interest in Singapore?
The traffic in Beijing is busier than the traffic in Singapore. There are a lot more vehicles on the road.

3 interesting things that I have seen and learnt today were swordplay during PE lessons, the learning of tai ji. The most interesting I seen is how the school operated. It is completely different from Victoria School.
