Vincent's Reflection Day 5
Day 5 : 15th November 2007
Write down your feelings about the sight that you have soaked in today. How has your experience in China been different from what you are used to in Singapore?
Feel quite impressed about how well preserved the things are, even being able to withstand time, the toughest challenge of all. One phrase says it all, though the probability of seeing snow excites me, I wouldn’t disagree: There’s no place like home.
Reflect on your home-stay experience, what have you learnt these past few days?
I have learnt that by far my buddy and all his friends are very obedient and well behaved, most probably due to the strict upbringing I have observed. The parents of my buddy are all very accommodating and view healthy diet as a must.
What are you most nervous about? How have you overcome it?
Of course to stay in a complete stranger’s house is quite weird, as most of the things are unfamiliar to us, but my buddy’s accommodating parents made this place feel similar as much possible as my home. The parents have been very nice and tried to let in to me as much as possible. But still, like Howard misses “BILL” today, I miss my home.

Xuan Jie's Reflection Day 5
Day 5 : 15th November 2007
Write down your feelings about the sight that you have soaked in today. How has your experience in China been different from what you are used to in Singapore?
Unlike Singapore, China has much history as it was found in 5000 years ago. There are many places of interest in Beijing especially palaces. I’ve learnt many history about Mao Tse Tung and historical people in the ancient China.
Reflect on your home-stay experience, what have you learnt these past few days?
My buddy and his parents are very nice and kind to me. They always cook foods which I never try it before. I also found that my buddy and his father came from 福州and his father and both of us are hokkien too!
What are you most nervous about? How have you overcome it?
I am very worried and nervous about the weather in Beijing. The weather is cold and dry. I am very worried that I can’t adapt to the weather there. The weather is getting colder and dryer day by day. I wear a few layers of clothes to make myself feel warmer. I also drink lots of water to maintain my body temperature too. Sometimes I’ll get flu in the morning but I overcome this problem by covering my blanket while sleeping.

I learnt about the eating culture, the famous dishes in Beijing and the living style of Beijing people.
What are you most nervous about? How have you overcome it?
I am most nervous about the culture of eating. I am scared that their dishes will be totally different from those in Singapore but it turned out there is not much difference.
